A Warehouse Equipment Checklist: 4 Items You Need

A Warehouse Equipment Checklist: 4 Items You Need

Every warehouse has the sole aim of running without a hitch, executing daily tasks seamlessly every single time. Part of making sure this happens, and does so safely, is ensuring you have all of the right equipment in place before commencing with your business venture. We have devised a small checklist that contains everything you will need, equipment-wise, to make the aforementioned happen.

1. Safety equipment, measures & guidelines

Although the measures and guidelines aren’t a form of warehouse equipment, they’re still essential for the smooth and safe running of any warehouse operation. Some of the measures you will need to put in place would be correct signage and taping off non-pedestrian areas, for example.

The guidelines you would have in place would include things like: making sure people don’t prop doors open with fire extinguishers, ensuring no one leaves boxes or stock in doorways and carrying out regular fire drills. Equipment, on the other hand, includes a whole host of different things, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • First aid kits
  • Safety gear, such as hard hats, fluorescent tabards, goggles and more
  • Guard rails and anti-slip tape

2. Adequate storage solutions

No matter the nature of the stock you have, adequate storage solutions are paramount in any warehouse. From warehouse racking to mezzanine flooring, it all helps when you have stock and machinery to house. Not only this, but you will also need to consider the location of your storage equipment, making sure it’s not placed next to doorways, stairs, fire exits or fire safety equipment, for example.

There’s a range of different warehouse pallet racking to choose from, each one varying in depth and height, as well as weight capacity. We are pleased to offer both warehouse racking and mezzanine flooring here at Multy Lift. But if you aren’t sure about which type of racking you need, then ask a member of our professional team – we’re more than happy to help.

3. The right warehouse equipment

Running a warehouse would be incredibly difficult to do without the right material handling equipment. From order pickers and reach trucks to forklifts and pallet trucks, there’s nothing you won’t be able to find here at Multy Lift. You should look at a number of things when choosing material handling equipment to buy, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • The number of staff you have
  • The capacity of the premises
  • Whether operations will need to be carried out inside, outside or both
  • Your stock levels
  • Your budget

Depending on your answers to those questions, you may be required to purchase several machines or perhaps just one or two vehicles of varying capabilities and purposes. You also don’t need to purchase brand new equipment if you don’t have the budget for it. Although we offer new material handling equipment, we’re pleased to provide customers with second-hand warehouse equipment, including used forklifts, refurbished reach trucks, second-hand pallet trucks and so much more.

It’s also important that you choose material handling equipment that best suits the location of your warehouse. This means considering different fuel types. For example, a diesel forklift would not be the best choice for indoor operations, but it would be ideal for operations that are carried out outside. If you only operate indoors, then an electric forklift would be perfect, but if you operate both inside and outdoors, then an LPG forklift would be an excellent choice. If you aren’t sure which fuel type to buy, then ask one of the dedicated, expert team here at Multy Lift.

4. Effective industrial cleaning equipment & chemicals

A huge part of owning your own business premises, especially if it’s a warehouse, is ensuring that it’s a clean, tidy and safe space for everyone to work in and around. One way in which warehouse owners make sure that their premises are clean is by having the right equipment on hand to be able to clean floors and machinery.

In addition to that, you will likely need specific cleaning chemicals to be able to effectively cut through all of the harsh grime and dirt that a warehouse setting will generate. Here at Multy Lift, we have a variety of different pieces of cleaning equipment available, as well as heavy-duty cleaning chemicals. The cleaning equipment we have on offer includes the following:
