5 Things You Can Do with a Mezzanine Floor

5 Things You Can Do with a Mezzanine Floor

Mezzanine flooring from us here at Multy Lift is the perfect way to enhance your warehouse space, whether you’re looking to implement a communal area for your workers or simply want more storage, then mezzanine floors are the way to go for many warehouse owners. However, some people might not be aware of exactly how beneficial they can be. Where they take up some square-footage of space, they’re actually far more useful than you might have otherwise thought. With this in mind, here are five things you can do with a mezzanine floor.

1. They can make great storage solutions

One of the most common reasons why people choose to have a mezzanine floor constructed is to add much-needed storage space. It’s a common misconception that they’re not as useful as warehouse racking, but that’s not actually the case. Mezzanine flooring has the capacity to store items both on top and underneath, so you can make the most of the space you have available no matter how much stock you have and regardless of the amount of machinery and equipment you own.

They’re strong and sturdy, meaning you’ll be able to store even the heaviest of items on the platform (although you should always check with the manufacturer regarding weight limits). There’s also no limit on the number of levels you can have constructed, so you could have two or three floors implemented that can not only be used as storage space but they can also be navigated across on foot as and when needed.

2. They can be used as a communal space for employees

Mezzanine flooring, when constructed with just one platform, can be used as communal space for your workers on top and a storage space for equipment and/or stock on the bottom. Not only does this help to save floor space (as you won’t have to dedicate more space to communal break areas), but it can also enhance your storage solutions.

It might also be that, instead of having a communal space for workers to share during lunch breaks, you could use it as a meeting space, allowing the entire team to come together at certain points in the day to either brief, or debrief, on the day’s events and tasks at hand.

3. They can be utilised as packing space

This is more the case if you’re running an e-commerce business or if you’re sitting within the e-commerce supply chain. As the online shopping trend grew tremendously during Covid, and even more afterwards, there’s never been a greater demand for sales through the internet. It’s a convenient, inexpensive and hassle-free way of receiving and paying for goods, so it’s important that your warehouse has adapted to be able to cope with the new demand.

This includes having a dedicated packing space. However, if you’re finding that you’re strapped for space, then a mezzanine floor could be the way to go. You’d have ample space for packing goods, ready to be sent on the next leg of their journey. Mezzanine floor construction could also be seen as a temporary structure, so it won’t be a huge financial investment going forward, which is something that many business owners are concerned about, particularly during the current financial climate.

4. They’re often used as office spaces

As already touched upon, you can use a mezzanine floor as much-needed office space, even if you used it as a conference area or a meeting room. Often, warehouse owners look to have temporary walls constructed, allowing the space to be closed off from general view. However, if you’re wanting to close in that space, you might have to consult with your Local Authority about planning permission, building regulations and other matters.

5. They can be used to store high-value stock

You might not want to put high-value items on the top of warehouse racking. Although racking is safe and secure to use, there’s always the possibility that it could be knocked off by passersby or if machinery or other pieces of equipment gets caught on it. If you’re worried about storing high-value inventory on such high levels, then a mezzanine floor would provide you with the perfect solution. Items can either be stored underneath the floor or on the platform itself, acting almost as a second storey.
