Ride-on floor sweepers are an excellent choice of industrial cleaning equipment, especially if your premises are especially large. There are many ways in which you can benefit from implementing them throughout your warehouse, and we’re on hand to cover some of those for you. Here are eight advantages to having a ride-on sweeper readily available in your commercial property:
1. It’s able to cover vast areas
It’s not always feasible to send one person out onto the warehouse floor with a broom to sweep up dirt and debris. It takes a lot of time and is also considered to be manual labour, which opens the door for injuries and accidents, especially if you have forklifts and other pieces of heavy machinery in operation at the same time. Mitigate this by purchasing or hiring a ride-on sweeper.
A ride-on sweeper will be able to cover a vast area in no time at all and with little-to-no effect on the operator. They will experience comfort as opposed to back pain as they won’t be crouched over a broom handle. Most ride-on floor sweeper models are able to cover more than 750 square metres at any one time, so a single use will rid your warehouse of dirt and debris in no time at all.
2. It’s an efficient way of cleaning the floors
A regular broom and dustpan will suffice in small, compact areas, but when you’re dealing with an incredibly large amount of floor space, it’s not an efficient way of clearing up the mess. A ride-on sweeper is an ideal cleaning solution for those who own particularly large commercial properties, hence why they’re so popular in a variety of different industries, not just warehousing and distribution. Some of the other industries that benefit from a ride-on sweeper includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Manufacturing
- Construction
- Shipping
- Retail
3. It’s safe to use
In comparison to using a broom and a dustpan, a ride-on sweeper is a far safer cleaning solution for a number of reasons. As already touched upon, having one of your employees go out on foot to the warehouse floor with a broom is leaving them vulnerable to collisions with other machines, such as reach trucks, order pickers and forklifts, to name a few.
It could also mean that they’ll develop back pain over time thanks to repetitive movements and the position they’re in when using the broom, many people seemingly bend over the broom handle slightly in order to see what they’re doing. If they need to sweep up a pile of debris off the floor, chances are, they’ll need to crouch down to sweep it up into the dustpan.
All of this is mitigated with the use of a ride-on sweeper. They won’t have to worry about colliding with other vehicles when on foot and they won’t have to manually use a broom to sweep debris and dirt away. Some ride-on sweeper models also come with lights and alarms to signal to others in the vicinity that a machine is in operation.
4. It’s a convenient cleaning method
It’s far more convenient for your employees to use a ride-on sweeper. They won’t have to go looking around for a dustpan or a broom and they won’t have to worry about moving out of the way for other pieces of heavy warehouse machinery. All they will have to do is conduct some checks on the ride-on sweeper to ensure it’s not worn, rusting or corroding and to check that it’s well-fuelled and ready and safe to use. Once they’re satisfied, all they have to do is mount the vehicle, start it up and get moving. They will be able to cover vast areas in very little time and be safe in the process – what could be more convenient than that?
5. Maneuverability is second-to-none
Although it might seem like a big, clunky machine, it actually has a very high level of manoeuvrability. This means that if you have smaller areas in and around your larger premises, then a ride-on floor sweeper will be able to navigate those compact areas with complete ease. They can reverse and turn around much like how a VNA forklift can.
No matter how big your commercial property is, you’ll always be able to count on a ride-on sweeper to get into those hard-to-reach spaces every single time. You won’t have to deploy another member of staff to sweep up your premises ever again if you implement ride-on floor sweepers throughout your warehouse.
6. It’s quiet when in operation
A ride-on sweeper won’t disrupt any day-to-day operations in and around your premises because they’re exceptionally quiet when in use. Operators and those nearby wouldn’t require the use of ear defenders or worry about noise levels. According to the Facilities Management Journal (FMJ), 60% of workers are unable to concentrate and will subsequently deliver work of poor quality if there’s too much noise in the workplace, with 15% saying that workplace noise has caused permanent damage to their hearing.
You won’t have to worry about this with a ride-on floor sweeper. They’re exceptionally quiet, much like electric forklifts and LPG forklifts. If you’re concerned about other workers not being aware that the machine is in operation, then you can buy models that come with flashing beacons and alarms to alert pedestrians that a piece of machinery is on the move, much like you can with forklifts and other pieces of warehouse equipment.
7. Maintenance costs are low
A ride-on sweeper is very inexpensive and relatively straightforward to maintain when compared to that of a forklift or another piece of warehouse equipment. They have very few moving parts which means little can go wrong. But if, in the unlikely event, it does, the fact that there aren’t many parts and components to it means that repairs can be made quickly and easily and replacements are also considered to be very affordable. This keeps maintenance costs low and downtime to an absolute minimum.
8. It’s comfortable for the driver
Ride-on sweeper manufacturers pride themselves on ergonomics and driver comfortability. This means that, although clearing the floor of dirt and debris takes no time at all, an operator could spend a considerable amount of time on it, in theory, and still be able to dismount it feeling fit as a fiddle. You won’t have to worry about them feeling aches or pains as a result of an inadequate backrest or controls in a hard-to-reach place, because each model has been designed with comfort and convenience in mind.
